Ms. Phillips serves as the Chief Executive Operations Officer of the Law Office of the Public Defender. She joined the office in 1980 as a legal assistant and was eventually charged with administering and managing departments, as well as serving as the Director of Community Outreach.
After leaving the office in 2006, she went on to work as the Senior Legislative Assistant to the Democratic Leader in the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate. Ms. Phillips managed all aspects of those respective offices while serving the community at the district level, acting as the liaison to constituents, preparing press releases, conducting background research, and assisting with legislative bills and the budget throughout the committee and session process.
Ms. Phillips is heavily involved in the community; she created our Summer Justice Program, chaired Fort Lauderdale’s first-ever Sealing and Expungement Workshop and has served on the Sistrunk Historical Festival Board of Directors, Broward County Community Action Board, Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, City of Fort Lauderdale Redevelopment Advisory Board, Taskforce for the Broward County Elimination of Schoolhouse to Jail House, Executive Committee of the NAACP, Fort Lauderdale Branch and Leadership Broward Class XLI.
