Mark Furdon serves as the Chief of the Public Defender’s Investigation Division. Mark grew up in Pompano Beach, where he attended grade school, high school and college, earning an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Mark began his career in criminal justice when he joined the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in 1982. He served as an officer, detective, and sergeant. Mark gained extensive experience while working in patrol, the detective bureau, Marine Patrol Unit, Bomb team, Dive team, Community Policing, and the Technical Services Unit. Mark retired from law enforcement to join the Broward Public Defender’s Office in 2006.
The investigators are responsible for locating witnesses, taking statements, reviewing police documents, reviewing evidence and videos, and serving subpoenas. They confer with the attorney in the formulation of a theory of defense and then testify in court if needed.
